LAST DAY BEFORE ESPANA

Sorry I haven’t posted in the last 2 days, the internet has been pretty faulty in our cabin so I haven’t been on the internet to post! The past 2 days have been sunny so we have been spending most of the days up on the deck after classes! 2 nights ago we had dinner outside on the 6th deck with Rocky one of the teachers on the ship, he is an Environmental Planner and teaches at Sonoma State in California. He brought his family on the trip and his 3 yr old son Ryder is the CUTEST little blond boy! He is taking Spanish on the boat and is running around chattering to everyone, he is adorabbbble! Rocky has traveled extensively, and recounted some of his adventures for us; it was fun to hear his stories!

Pub nights the past 3 nights have been fun, I am meeting s0o0o0o many new people and the sunsets have all been gorgeous! 2 nights ago we passed through the Azores Islands, they belong to Portugal but are 1,000 miles away from mainland Portugal. They looked like something out of Lost; I took a bunch of pictures! We also saw a school of dolphins that were swimming close to the ship; they would jump out of the water. The tops of their bodies were black and the bottom gray, I have never seen any dolphins like that before! The ship sailed in between 2 of them and they were in sight for most of the day. It was so neat passing through them bc you could stand on the back of the ship on the top deck and see land on both sides of you! We could also see the little towns on the islands, and when it got dark all the lights flickered from around the islands, it was really pretty!

Classes are going well, we have our first tests in about a week and a half right before we get to Italy. We are making travel plans with the friends that we have met, and are trying to put together a villa in Croatia, on the beach with a bunch of people, apparently it will only cost abt $30 a night per person, I hope it works out. There was a “dance” on the ship 2 nights ago in the union (our biggest class room), we planned on going but we didn’t realize it ended at 11 so we didn’t make it. The sun sets at 10 every night so we hang out on deck after dinner talking and watching the sun go down, so I guess time slipped away faster than we thought, oh well, everyone else said it wasn’t that great…hah.

We are going to be in Cadiz tomorrow at 8 am, but they have to check everyone’s passports and we have to go through immigration procedures on the ship so we don’t know what time we are actually going to get off! Hopefully it will only take max 2 hrs. We are going to spend the day in Cadiz, walking around sightseeing: go to the Cathedral, museums, shop at the market which is supposed to be cool, and then probably hit up the beach in the afternoon. Fernanda is going to be with us in Cadiz, and one of her friends is coming to meet us, so I’m excited to meet him, she said he’s verrrrry good looking haha. Then we are going to go out in Cadiz tomorrow night. I head to Sevilla, Cordoba, and Granda for the rest of the time we are in Spain. I am very excited to see the Mezquita, Alhambra, and Cathedral and explore all those cities!!!! We have a community (aka ship-wide) meeting tonight, called “pre-port” and they are going to give us all the necessary info we need to know before we get off the ship, safety wise, how to disembark, get back on, stuff like that. Oh, we also saw another whale today, this time we got to see his tail when he would dive under the water; it was only abt 100 yds from the ship! NEAT! I prob will be able to use an Internet café somewhere in Spain so I will update all of you then!

MISS YOU ALL!
